YA Shot is an author-run, author-led Young Adult and Middle Grade festival that raises the money and resources to run a year-long programme pairing libraries and schools for free author events to foster a love of reading, inspire a passion for writing, and encourage aspirations to careers in the Arts. We believe in equal access to books and opportunities for all – YA Shot brings UKYA and UKMG authors together to pursue that goal, supporting libraries and young people across the country. At present, we’re a not-for-profit organisation but we’re seeking to become a charity.
I’ve been involved with YA Shot from the start. You just haven’t always seen me. Most of it was little things here and there, and last year my job description was essentially ‘bits of everything’. Mostly I’ve been helping by supporting Alexia Casale (YA Shot Director), co-running the @yashotmediateam account, setting up cleaning up the event (and helping cleaning up afterwards), making passes, graphics, etc… Oh and making tea. You’ll find that beverage production is essential. 🙂
Now that the YA Shot Team is growing my role has become a constant. Not just a few hours as and when, but a new job that occupies me every week. I’m absolutely thrilled about this opportunity so it’s exciting and I’m working with wonderful people.
