Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

There are of course many more I could have picked but the authors listed below have guaranteed themselves a life long fan.
If you haven’t read any of their books you really should. 😉

James Dawson

Cruel Summer
Hollow Pike

I waited too long to read Hollow Pike, don’t make that mistake. Cruel Summer was just as impressive and Say Her Name (due out in May 14) sound amazing!

Alexia Casale

The Bone Dragon

I know it’s only one book but what a book. The Bone Dragon has become one of my all-time favourites.

Siobhan Curham

Dear Dylan
Finding Cherokee Brown

I read Dear Dylan on recommendation and loved it, so I had to get the others. I’d recommend Finding Cherokee or Dear Dylan to start you on the Siobhan Curham love-fest.

Marcus Sedgwick

She Is Not Invisible
Flood and Fang (The Raven Mysteries #1)

We read She Is Not Invisible for Book Club last month and it was a thumps up. So far my favourite has been Flood and Fang, want to read the rest of that series.

Yangsze Choo

The Ghost Bride

Such a beautiful book, can’t wait to see what comes next.

Katie McGarry

Crash into You
Dare You To
Pushing The Limits
Crossing the Line

I really resisted reading Pushing The Limits, I’ve had a lot of fails with ‘hype’ books but Katie McGarry did not let me down. Since then I’ve even read the novella in the series and i never read novella’s.

Sharon Jones

Dead Jealous

I meet Sharon Jones back in 2012 at Keris Stainton’s book-launch and thought she was lovely. As soon as Dead Jealous was available for review I requested a copy and thankfully the book is just as brilliant as Sharon Jones is lovely. (It would have been really awkward otherwise.)

Holly Smale

Holly Smale

Geek Girl
Model Misfit (Geek Girl #2)

I can find books funny but rarely do I laugh out loud and Geek Girl made me do that a lot. Plus Harriet is wonderful. Looking for something to make you smile, the Geek Girl books are perfect!

Emma Carroll

Frost Hollow Hall

Another author where the debut is enough to secure a place on my insta-buy list.

Jonathan Stroud

The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co. #1)

The name Jonathan Stroud wasn’t knew to me but I’d never really considered his books my thing. For some reason I decided to give The Screaming Staircase a go and WOW. There are a lot of books I have to catch up on.

Now it’s your turn, what amazing authors have you discovered this year?

  1. Woohoo! We share some of the same authors this week. (James Dawson, Katie McGarry, Siobhan Curham, Holly Smale) I need to get around to reading Hollow Pike. I have it ready and waiting. I also nearly added Alexia and Emma too!

  2. Gosh, I’ve only heard of two of them, and the only one whose book I’ve read is Alexia Casale! I do have Pushing the Limits sitting on my shelf waiting to be read, though, which I plan to read next year.

  3. The only one whose books I’ve read are Jonathan Stroud (the Bartimaeus books), though quite a few of the others are on my to read list! Will have to look into the ones who aren’t 😉
