Fortunately, the Milk… by Neil Gaiman

17758805How did I get the book?  I bought it.

Genre: Adventure

Synopsis: You know what it’s like when your mum goes away on a business trip and Dad’s in charge. She leaves a really, really long list of what he’s got to do. And the most important thing is DON’T FORGET TO GET THE MILK. Unfortunately, Dad forgets. So the next morning, before breakfast, he has to go to the corner shop, and this is the story of why it takes him a very, very long time to get back.
Featuring: Professor Steg (a time-travelling dinosaur), some green globby things, the Queen of the Pirates, the famed jewel that is the Eye of Splod, some wumpires, and a perfectly normal but very important carton of milk.

200words (or less) review: Mum’s away on business and dad forgets the milk, after a very long time he finally returns with an adventures tale of why he was delayed. There was Professor Steg (a time-travelling dinosaur), Pirates, the Eye of Splod, some wumpires and space police.

On the cover is says “ridiculously bestselling author” – I’d like to add “genius” to that. I don’t care what age-group this book is supposedly for, it’s universal. Find me someone who doesn’t crack a smile at any point while reading and I think we should worry greatly about that person.

This is so much fun! Chris Riddell artwork is wonderful (although how much does Dad look like Neil Gaiman?) and adds even more to the enjoyment of reading Fortunately, the milk…

I want to run around town handing this to random people and watch them read it. (That’s not weird, right?)

Recommend it?

Absolutely

  1. Lovely review! I have this book waiting for me to read, now if only I could get my butt in gear and READ IT. Alas, I have two books I defintiely have to read first but hopefully after I’ll sit down and read Fortunately, the Milk… 😀
