Real Mermaids Hold Their Breath by Helene Boudreau

click meHow did I get the book?  I bought it.

Genre: Fantasy

First Impression: You will be as good, right?*

Synopsis: Jade begins her summer confused. Yes, there’s that whole “will this be a leg-day or a tail-day” kind of confusion, but Jade’s got even bigger problems: it’s been three weeks since Mom returned to the ocean with no news of her whereabouts. Plus, it’s been twenty-one days since Jade first kissed her mer-boy Luke and now-nothing.
Will Mom find the enchanted tidal pool that will allow her to become human? And why is Luke acting so weird?
The SEAquel to Helene Boudreau’s critically acclaimed Real Mermaids Don’t Wear Toe Rings is as energetic and fresh as a salty sea breeze.

Additional: The reason I didn’t buy both Real Mermaid titles at once is because I worry about Book-Two-Blues a lot and I wasn’t sure if this series was just too cheesy. It’s not. So if you’re contemplating Real Mermaids Don’t Wear Toe Rings, buy both. You’ll thank me. 😉

200words (or less) review: Real Mermaids Hold Their Breath picks up almost straight after the first book ended. Its summer and Jade is serving ice-cream to the masses while trying to figure out where her mother is and how to get her home.

Jade’s narration is still as entertaining as before. She spends a lot of time panicking in her head which is just makes her more loveable. Cori and Jade have repaired their friendship, even with the big fin secret still hanging over them. Her dad remains reassuringly dad-like, I loved the Merlin 3000 storyline.

Helene Boudreau has expanded on the mermaid mythology, introducing us to more characters and the mermaid council. This book has more big issues while the first one was very much focused on Jade.

My only problem with Real Mermaids Hold Their Breath is that I wanted to read Don’t Need Heals straight after and it’s not out until 2013. Ah well…

Recommend it?

Absolutely

*Yes I talk to my books.

  1. That cover is adorable! I really like your 200-words-or-less reviews. Informative and succinct. I might try that idea, if you don’t mind. 🙂
