click meHow did I get the book?  Given by the author as part of blog tour.

Genre: Contemporary

First Impression: WANT to read this.

Additional Information: I requested a review copy from Laura Lascarso after I saw this on Write Dreams. She very kindly agreed to get me a review copy and asked me to participate in her blog tour.

Synopsis: Three weeks ago I tried to run away from home. Now all I want is to go back.
When troubled Taylor Truwell is caught with a stolen car and lands in court for resisting arrest, her father convinces the judge of an alternative to punishment: treatment in a juvenile psychiatric correctional facility. Sunny Meadows is anything but the easy way out, and Taylor has to fight hard just to hold on to her sanity as she battles her parents, her therapist, and vicious fellow patients. But even as Taylor struggles to hold on to her stubborn former self, she finds herself relenting as she lets in two unlikely friends-Margo, a former child star and arsonist, and AJ, a mysterious boy who doesn’t speak.

200words (or less) review: I read Counting Backwards in one sitting. Laura Lascarso’s writing just flows, making it very hard to put the book down. Taylor is a good narrator, I didn’t love her but I needed to know what would happen. Personally my favourite character was Margo but Dr Deb is also pretty cool.

Taylor is deposited at Sunny Meadows by her father, who walked out on her and her alcoholic mother. Since he left Taylor has been trying to hold it together as her mother’s continuously fails at getting sober. One night she’s had enough and steals a car to escape.

Escape is Taylor’s failsafe but at Sunny Meadows she’s locked in. Now she has to deal with rules, fellow patients and the feeling that both her parents have abandoned her again. Taylor is very angry but also scared. Something she doesn’t want to admit to anyone – let alone herself.

Counting Backwards a great debut, I’m so glad I had to opportunity to read this.

Recommend it?

Absolutely
