How did I get the book?  Received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Genre: Science Fiction

Synopsis: It all began with nine. Nine aliens who left their home planet of Lorien when it fell under attack by the evil Mogadorians—who scattered on Earth and went into hiding. They look like ordinary teenagers, but they have extraordinary skills. The Mogadorians killed Number One, Number Two, and Number Three. They tried to kill Number Four … and failed.
Number Four (aka John Smith) has now teamed up with Number Nine, while Six has gone off to find the others. With the Mogadorians hot on their trail and time running out, they must find a way to come together, before it’s too late. Power in numbers will save them all.

200words (or less) review: The Rise of Nine is narrated by John, Marina and Six. I liked Marina in the previous book and Six has been built up as this amazing character, something she manages to life up to. Unfortunately John still winds me up but compared to the first two this installment in the Lorien Legacies has come on leaps and bounds.

The writing is much tighter and I was glad to see that what I thought was a character change to move the story along in The Power of Six has actually an explanation in this book.  Sadly some of my continuity issues are still there and while The Rise of Nine certainly doesn’t lack action it is repetitive. I lost count of how many times the Garde where trapped or injured and then escaped.

The Rise of Nine is definitely the best in the series so far. If the books continue on this track I can imagine future titles really being something to look forward to.
